The Faces of PodCamp NYC

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Here’s a collage of the Photo Booth pictures that people to at my table at PodCamp NYC. I had hoped to list all the names of everyone with this, but I have a flight to catch in a few hours and six workshops to prepare for NAB. I’ll see if I can add them later.

Still, I wanted to get these great photos up. Thanks to all those who participated and thanks to Chris Brogan for the great idea. Enjoy!

PodCamp NYC Session Update | How Often Should You Update Your Podcast?

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

PodCamp NYC SessionDuring one of my PodCamp NYC sessions I was asked how often you should update your podcast. I gave what I thought was my usual answer, but from what I’ve seen quoted in a couple blogs I either miscommunicated or was misunderstood. So I’d like to clarify my point of view.

It’s no mystery that podcasting takes time. Posting a new episode multiple times a week (or even just every week) can be tough. Many of the most dedicated podcasters who posted 3-5 episodes a week in the early days have since dropped to once or twice a week.

PodCamp NYC | Unconferences vs. Conferences

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

PodCamp NYCUnconferences vs. conferences - which is better? I just want to go on record saying that I don’t think that one is better than the other. For me there is no “free is better” or “corporate is worse”. They are just different like any event produced by two different people/entities will be different. Even each PodCamp is different.

We can banter semantics, but in the end everyone will have different definitions. What makes something a conference anyway—charging money, more than 5 sponsors, more than 300 attendees?

PodCamp NYC is Around the Corner

Wednesday, April 04th, 2007

PodCamp NYCThe biggest PodCamp yet is almost here. For the last few months I have been helping to organize PodCamp NYC which takes place this Saturday April 7th at The New Yorker Hotel. Over 1000 people have registered. We have over 100 sessions in 12 different rooms. This is way bigger than we expected when we started this process.

The last several days have been wild. The last-minute registrations have been pouring in as have the gracious sponsorship dollars (the whole event depends on sponsors).

I really enjoy meeting people in person who have read my book, listened to my podcast or used one of my podcasting tutorials. If you’ll be at one of these events please let me know.

Me in front of Big BenAfter three wonderful days in London absorbing rich information, seeing podcasting friends, making new acquaintances and having excellent conversation, here are the overall thoughts and impressions that I gained while attending and leading a group at the Corporate Podcasting Summit.

Corporate Podcasting Summit | Podcast Content in the Corporate Context

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Now that I’m back from London and had my jet-lag nap, I can finish posting my highlights from the Corporate Podcasting Summit. Here are some notes from an excellent presentation by Nick Saalfeld, Director of Wells Park Communications. His presentation was titled Podcast Content in the Corporate Context.

  • Interviews will trump a “presidential address” any day. Interview the CEO rather than having him just speak into a mic.

No Love for PodShow at the Corporate Podcasting Summit in London

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Their was an interesting panel on podcast sponsorships this afternoon. Actually, the most interesting part was, that on three occasions, the PodShow representative gave what seemed like a “political side step” answer to questions directed at him about numbers and examples from PodShow’s sponsorship campaigns.

One audience member asked for a ballpark figure of how many of PodShow’s podcasters have been able to quit their day job. Another asked to have an estimate of how much podcasters can make with PodShow sponsorships. Now, giving the benefit of the doubt, maybe he really didn’t “have the information with him.” But it seemed to me that he was either poorly prepared or purposefully vague.
