Grammar Girl | Creating a Successful Podcasting Network

  • There seems to be a natural audience level for each show. The listenership races up to a plateau and then sees a gradual growth that is similar across the network.
  • Your transcripts can be a product that is sold or licensed.
  • Making money is more than advertising in your podcast. For example, her book is a form of moneizing the podcast.
  • She has a set format for the network: one host, scripted, short. People know what to expect.
  • She owns the brand. Quick and Dirty Tips is the brand.
  • Podcasters are paid. In general she pays a base rate plus additional compensation based on the success of the show.
  • Each show promotes another show on the network at the end of the episode. The network cross-promotes itself.
  • The network offers resources such as sound production and script editing. The host records the raw content, the rest is taken care of.
  • Building a brand has opened doors for her to make money speaking, consulting and writing books.
  • 100,000 downloads a month is a good level for running a profitable business.

Speaking at the Podcast ExpoThe podcasting event of the year is almost upon us. The Podcast and New Media Expo returns for its third round, this time as a three-day event. If you haven’t made plans yet to attend, I highly encourage you to consider doing so. I’ve attended a lot of trade/industry shows and the ones with podcasters are always the most fun. This is the podcasting event not to miss.

Podcasting Course Enrollment Opens Tuesday | Course Outline Revealed

I’m currently enjoying the hidden paradise known as Alaska. In between helping my mother (who was recently treated for cancer) and spending some time with family, I’ve been polishing off the final pieces of the course.

We’re getting very close. It’s definitely taken longer than expected to get everything just right. What you may not know is that I’ve been preparing a course for my Internet Business Mastery podcast audience at the same time. Somebody needs to check my head!
